Are you talkin' to me?

Updated: Apr 3, 2023

Did you know the biggest workplace gripe is co-workers who talk way too loudly on the phone?

It's something we've all experienced, and sometimes we might even be the culprit!

We tend to match our voices to the noise level around us even without knowing it. That's why we need to be mindful and consciously lower our voice volume, especially in shared spaces.

If you're unsure if you're being too loud, try asking a trusted co-worker for their honest feedback. It's an easy and respectful way to find out how you're impacting those around you.

Another way to gauge if you're being too loud is to pay attention to your co-workers' reactions when you're on the phone. Do they seem to be having trouble concentrating or engaging in their own conversations? Are they leaving the room, putting on headphones, or closing their door?

Lastly, try answering the phone in a softer voice than you usually would. It's much easier to speak louder if necessary, rather than having to dial back your volume. Let's all make an effort to be mindful of our phone conversations and create a more peaceful and considerate workplace!
